So much more!
Below are some high-level updates on some of the campaigns we’ve all been working on:
End of Year Updates
I. Farm Bill
The Farm Bill reauthorization is a once every five years opportunity to protect and strengthen programs we rely on, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). This critical legislation directly impacts Food Bank For New York City, the over 700 community pantries and soup kitchen partners that make up our member network, and our neighbors across New York City.
Farm Bill Advocacy will continue in the Spring. Keep an eye out for updates to our Farm Bill Resources Page for more.
II. New York State Budget
Every year, the Governor must submit an Executive Budget proposal outlining the anticipated revenue and expenses in the year to follow. The two legislative houses then respond with their budget priorities and a final budget must be agreed upon by the April 1 deadline.
Between January 9th and the budget deadline of April 1st, 2024, Food Bank For New York City will commence its Annual New York State Budget Campaign.
Stay tuned for our 2024 New York State Budget Priorities and Advocacy Toolkit in the beginning of the new year!
Thank you for being a part of our community, and your continued support in fighting for critical anti-hunger policies. We look forward to continuing to connect with you in the new year. Cheers! 🍾
